Achar Salad

Pickled string beans, carrots, cucumber, carrots, and cabbage tossed in a sesame oil and sprinkled with crushed peanuts, served cold. It came out on this plate not suitable for food pictures, so I told Helen (the owner) and she served the rest on white plates. This is a great start to the meal and one of the dishes that James recommended.

Singapore Curry Laksa

The Singapore Curry Laksa was James’ must order. My notes say: HOLY CRAP – one of my favorite bites this trip. Josh describes it in the video. Spicy, sweet, salty, hot, refreshing, filling – it’s tough to find the words to ascribe to this deliciousness.

Curry Laksa

This was similar to the Singapore style but it wasn’t as spicy. It came with this fish and pork paste sandwiched between two pieces of eggplant and fried. Now that doesn’t sound too appetizing, but it was also one of my favorite bites of this tour. The way the curry flavored the eggplant was just spectacular.

Crispy Fish Cakes

I believe this is the same fish and pork paste fried to a crisp outside and served with some sweet and sour sauce. I guess this is their golden gun. How many recommendations have you gotten for fish and pork paste this year? Please, take mine. You won’t be dissatisfied.

Beef Satay

Very crispy beef in a peanutty, garlicky satay sauce.

Char Kway Teow

This was just a chinese stir fry. This and the beef satay were the only things that didn’t blow the roof off the mother like the other dishes. They were both very good.

Love Me Tender Beef

I forgot the name of this dish in the video and it caused for an interesting clip. I left it in – I don’t think anyone is going to take offense. This stuff tasted EXACTLY like the street meat beef skewers in Shanghai but had a different consistency. I had initially wanted to save room for Danny Brown Wine Bar and Kitchen (the next stop) but couldn’t help eating much more than I should have here. This dish was amazing. Spicy, tender … I ate more than one spoonful of just the sauce.
