I grew up with pretty much everyone that works here, but don’t be fooled, this is the best beer bar in Maine, regardless of my predispositions. I am going to the Publick House next weekend, so I will report back on whether or not it is the best in New England. The tap selection is ridiculous, the bottled beer selection? I think they have more than three hundred available at all times. If you join the beer club, it’s about a beer a day for a year, but after that, you basically get half of your beer for free (a plus-sized pewter mug at the same price as the regular sized beers).
I had high hopes for this place when I came in at the 2008 Old Port Fest. It has not disappointed and has since extended its selection to include cheese, charcuterie plates, and sandwiches.
Eric Michaud and the Y-Town all-star cast bring true beer lovers and those who love beer lovers (or are maybe just meeting for the first time; it’s a unique place to take a first date) together in an authentic, old world European atmosphere that has built on the past and carved out its own niche for beer appreciation.
I haven’t yet tried the food.
