The Biscuits were freakin’ fantabulous. I didn’t even know that these biscuits were called 72 layer biscuits when I gazed lovingly into the biscuit’s biscuity center and noticed the intricacy of the layers in that bad boy. We asked for more bread and they didn’t bring us out any more biscuits! I don’t think the biscuits worked as well as the rolls sopping up the mussel broth, but it would have been nice to have the choice.

I love writing the word “Biscuit.” It’s so interestingly spelled. Try to spell it phonetically with a “c” and and it looks like bisset, try to spell it with a “k” and it looks like it was derived from something other than a Romance language. Hmm. Let’s move on.

I was happy with my main course, but I expected to be wowed by this “Lobster Hash” that I ordered and It came out lobster and potatoes. Nothing enlightening. My mom had a crab encrusted haddock with a very delicate flavor for its encrustedness. My brother’s Steak O’ Pwov was tender and seasoned as well as any I have tasted. Of course, but I’m not such a big Au Poivre orderer when I go out, and besides, it’s summer on an island of the Maine coast; what the hell was I supposed to choose? Everything was fresh – the chef makes use of the bounty of the Maine countryside quite nicely.

We also had the lobster-bacon-avocado salad. This was fun. The corn was succulent, the lobster was not too cold for the salad, and the bacon was what bacon always is: absolutely gorgeous. The lobster addition was good here, and there’s a possibility that my hash didn’t measure up to my expectations because the salad had lobster/bacon features as well.

The waitstaff were not on par with any five star restaurant that I have been to. I overheard one girl describing dishes to another table as “good” and missing key ingredients/not knowing what the ingredients were. I am a stickler on water and mine was always filled, which is always a plus. I mean to say that they are a very attentive group (I never felt over serviced and never felt any one of them was rushed), but they are not a five star staff.

I loved this place. If you want to impress out-of-town guests with food, this is a great place to take them. You will not be let down.
