The 2/3 was running on the same track as the 1 to 72nd street, and there was construction. I’d thought about taking the 6 and cutting over to the on the L, but looking at it now, I should have just taken the 6 to Brooklyn Bridge. I am getting better about navigating through the city, but on the weekends, there are all these changes and it gives me trouble. No G service? I guess it’s all about the budget cuts. I’ve got an idea for a web video that I am going to do after this project is done, completely unrelated to food, but hilarious. I’ll link to it here when the project is over, but for now, you will just have to wait with baited breath.
Stephane and I came up with a fabulous idea that may very well be brought to fruition in the coming months, so stay tuned for this one. In essence, I’d be buying a restaurant for one night a month for a few hundred dollars. We were pretty excited about it, but there’s still some details to flesh out to make it viable. I’ll get back to you if this works.

Frijoles con Queso y Papas con Chorizo I like when I know the words to something in another language. I don’t know what they call this at Kiva Café, but we called it divine. I’ve been a big chorizo fan ever since Gaithersburg, MD – home to a serious latino population and a lot of great inexpensive markets. Chopped up chorizo is a good idea in just about every dish, so you can’t go wrong with the potatoes. The beans were salty and creamy with the white cheese; eating them together with the Chorizo is advised. |

Mesquite Pancakes Mesquite flour (link) tastes a lot lie buckwheat flour, or at least I thought it did when I asked Beebe if there was any buckwheat flour in the pancakes. Is that stuff gluten free as well? These things were fantastic by themselves, but they were seriously overshadowed by the next item … |

Blueberry Corn Pancakes These were the big winner here. I guess they’re selling this mix now or soon; they’re gluten free and they’re fantastic. Almost like a smoother Johnny Cake. With blueberries, it tastes as good as it looks. We had this one with some Agave Nectar that was a bit thinner than the maple syrup, but it worked just as well. |

Beebe (the owner) is super nice. They have art up all over the walls and jewelry in the tables (IN the tables!); it’s all for sale from local artists. Cool vibe, excellent food. Get the corn pancakes and don’t forget a bag of pancake mix on your way out so you can bring this deliciousness home with you!
