I met Jessie at 88 Orchard about fifteen minutes late, my standard arrival time for a lot of the morning meetings – for some reason, I think the 6 is a lot faster than it is. Jessie is happy to give me the benefit of the doubt. Jessie came in from Jersey just to eat with me today (she says she had to do errands, but I knew better). We went inside and talked with Sheena and Lauren about which items they liked the best and it was easy for them to call out the Breakfast Burrito (above) and the Challah French Toast (below).
The challah french toast was my pick. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed this breakfast burrito, but the french toast was what I wanted this morning. I’m usually a savory breakfast person, as a matter of fact, I’m usually a savory everything person. The only thing that’s changed over the last few days is that I’ve been a bit under the weather. Smell is a huge part of the experience of eating, and I always knew this, but it’s so important when I go into these places that I can offer my full attention. When I’m not able to smell, I feel like I’m shortchanging the places a bit.
Regardless, I loved the french toast. I liked the burrito, and when I put some hot sauce on it, I liked it even more. Go figure.
What garnered most of our praise for this visit was the Fresh-Squeezed Watermelon/Orange Juice. I guess that’s a misnomer, they didn’t exactly squeeze the watermelon; they might have pressed it, or crushed it, but you can’t really squeeze it. Either way, we loved the stuff. You wouldn’t necessarily think it would be a fantastic combination, but it was money. I can’t tell you exactly why, it just works.
When Sheena found out I was going to stay and use the wi-fi, she had to wow me with her Macchiato (pic) skills. Obviously, it was beautiful, just like everything else about our visit.
Jessie pretty much sums it up in the video:
