The Kinsale – Boston, MA

As far as Irish Bars in Boston go, this one is a pass. There are more authentically Irish bars closer to Faneuil, in Southie, and Dorchester. The Kinsale is a fairly homogenized Irish bar.

It may be noted that I didn’t get to have the food, the kitchen was closed when I got in.

We got there to wait for a Wedding party arriving last saturday night and the place was absolutely dead. I was talking to a couple girls at a bar in the financial district, and they said the place was closed on Saturday. For a second, I was dumbfounded, and then I realized that there is no one in the Financial District on Saturday night for reasons not too tough to ascertain. This bar isn’t too far away from the main night hotspots, but it’s far enough away to wonder if they should be open past normal dinner hours on Saturdays.

The doorman wished me a happy belated birthday after looking at my ID, I thought that was a nice touch. Normally bouncers and bartenders could give a crap about your birthday and are just looking for the year, but it was nice to see some human interest there.

Attentive bartenders, nice people, good beer selection, but I wasn’t wowed by anything.

Maybe it was because i had just woken up . . .

I have never had any bouncer tell me Happy Birthday before! Even when I'm out on my birthday. Maybe he thought you were cute!

I'm Irish, and I hate it when I go to fake authentic bars like that. What a disgrace.
