The Treats Truck – Plate 83

Oh the miracles of modern technology! I forget how it actually happened, but I might have sent out a morning tweet asking someone to meet me in midtown for treats just hoping someone would come but half thinking no one would. Then Emme pops up; she’s like three blocks away. Bingo bango bloggo.

This Kim chick is a frickin’ workhorse. She was flying around the truck the whole time we were there, dishing us the treats and tending to the customers, and the next morning, she was fighting for a space behind the Waffle Truck. I saw a video on her somewhere … a little barrel of dynamite. I don’t think this is it, and it’s an ad, but it gets the point across. She’s awesome.

Peanut Butter Sandwich

Peanut Butter Sandwich

Emme asked me if it was as good as the Thomas Keller Nutter Butter (link). It’s an unfair comparison. It’s like comparing an E Class with an Accord; they’re not competitors. Just like the Accord, the price to quality was excellent on the peanut butter sandwich. Great resale value, a four-star crash test rating, a JD Power winner for five years running.

Pumpkin Cake

Pumpkin Cake

Blondie & Brownie said these things were their favorites. I love cream cheese frosting on anything, this was no different. I gotta tell you, I am a bigger fan of carrot cake because of the density, but the pumpkin cake came through with the wintry pumpkin spice flavor. I’d still like to try the carrot cake.

Caramel and Chocolate Creme Sandwiches

Caramel and Chocolate Creme Sandwiches

Affectionately known as the truckers. They have to have another word for Oreo, right? I liked the caramel creme one better, but there were plenty of people getting both.

Pecan Butterscotch Bar

Pecan Butterscotch Bar

The best thing from the truck hands down. By a mile. She broke one of these up for us first, kind of like the mutz at Fiore’s and Leo’s (link and link), just hit us with the awesomeness right off the bat. The only thing about that is we were looking for another item to eclipse the awesome flavor in this one and only a few items came close (pumpkin cake, caramel trucker)

But holy crap, this thing was good. It was like the filet mignon of the treats truck. I would put this up against a lot of full on desserts I had over the course of 93 plates as just plain better. I would get an edge, but a corner might be pushing it …

Sugar Dots

Sugar Dots

I could have eaten 50 of the small ones without blinking; 75 with milk. Something about the simplicity of a sugar cookie that does it for me. I loved these things!

Cran Almond Crispy

Cran Almond Crispy

Like Emme said, this one probably works better in the summer because the cool temperatures make these things harden.

Raspberry Brownie

Raspberry Brownie

This was just like the Cran Almond Crispy – the jam hardened, making the brownie hard to eat as it was supposed to be eaten. I knew what they were going for here, but it was hard to imagine as the jam came off in one big strip. Emme and I had to cut it up and pair the jam with the brownie like cheese and crackers. I wonder if there’s a winter equivalent to these two that would be better suited for the cold temperatures. I’m going to have to come back this summer for a redux.
