Bagel World – Plate 71

Phil is the second half of $30 a week (link) and he met me for this second lunch of the weekend. We were going to meat at Foodswings (see what I did there?) but it’s in Williamsburg, I heard they were kind of uppity about their values, and in my experience, their management is tough to deal with. I texted Tina and asked if Phil wanted to pick a place nearby for lunch instead. He responded The Farm on Adderly, which happens to be just about the most expensive place in Brooklyn to have lunch. Geez, for living on $30 a week, these guys sure have some champagne tastes! Asked him to see if he could dial down the luxury a few notches to spare my nonexistent bank account balance and he opted for one of his old neighborhood favorites, Bagel World. We didn’t need to go this low end, but I’ll take it any way I can.

Two bagels and a coffee – not much to review here, but let’s get it on:

Iced Coffee: Lotsa Cream, Lotsa Sugar

I would guess that I could have asked for lotsa cream and one sugar instead – different people have different versions of lotsa. I think this guy gave me two fingers of sugar.

Everything Bagel with Scallion Cream Cheese

This one was mine. I’d had scallion cream cheese on Zach’s bagel at Ess-A-Bagel (link) and loved it. Why would you ever order chive cream cheese if the scallion variety was available? It boggles the mind.

What am I gonna say about the bagel? It wasn’t too thick, they put a ton of cream cheese on it, there was plenty of everything on it. It was soft and chewy, it was the most recent one out of the oven. I forgot to ask for mine toasted, I’d just coming from slamming half a croque, a bunch of french fries, hash browns, sausage and profiteroles, and I still enjoyed it.

Olive Cream Cheese on a Multi-Grain Bagel

Olive Cream Cheese on a Multi-Grain Bagel

I like cream cheese stuffed olives, but I’m not the biggest fan of olive cream cheese. It’s the same with lox; I love a good lox bagel but I don’t like lox cream cheese. Why is this? What happens in the deconstruction of the lox and the olives that causes me not to like the mix? No idea.

The multi grain bagel was pretty decent. I order one type of bagel when I go into a shop and that’s the Everything. Layne (link) agreed with me but said she had a couple places that did great sea salt bagels when she had that craving. The multi grain was surprisingly good, but the olive cream cheese didn’t do anything for me. I’m sure it was great, it’s just not my style.
